Description

The rt element is a child element of the ruby element and contains the annotation that will be displayed to the user on screen, ideally beside or above the base text (rb) which requires the annotation.

For simple ruby markup, only one rt element may appear. However, there are more complex mechanisms for marking up ruby, using the rtc element, which do allow for multiple instances of the rt element.

Example

Here’s rt in action:

<ruby>
 <rb>家辺 勝文</rb>
 <rt>liaison</rt>
</ruby>

Use This For …

This element is used to contain the annotation that relates to the foreign characters (contained in the rb element) that require annotation.
