Syntax
Description
Visited links will display in
purple with an underline, which may not be sufficiently different to the
default blue link display for some users (see the section on the attribute for more). The
vlink attribute allows you to change the color of
all links to pages that have previously been visited.
This attribute
is deprecated, so you should avoid using it. Instead, use the CSS
equivalent to set link colors: a:visited
{color:gray;}.
Note that the visited state is based on the browser’s history. If the user clears the browser’s history log, the visited links will once again render as unvisited links.
Example
This code sets visited links to
"gray":
<body vlink="gray"> ⋮ </body>
Value
This attribute
takes as its value a recognized color name (for example,
"blue" or "red"), or a value
specified in hexadecimal notation (such as "#003366").
Note that it’s not possible to use shorthand hexadecimal values
in HTML as you can in CSS—for example, you can’t express
"#cceeff" as
"#cef".
